What’s New on the Savage Axis
The next evolution of the Savage Axis has launched! The new line up of Axis rifles has been designed to provide reliable, ergonomic, and accurate rifles built for everyone right out of the box. From the base model Axis XP to the new Axis 2 PRO series of rifles, there’s a rifle with options for every hunter or shooter in the new Axis line. Let’s dive into what’s new with the Savage Axis rifle lineup.
New Axis Models
The Savage Axis has come in various configurations throughout the years. With models offering camo and hardwood stocks, and unique calibers, the Axis has been adapted several times throughout the years. The new series of Axis rifles gets back to the basics, while still offering a wide range of options to choose from. There are four new models: the Axis XP, Axis 2, Axis 2 XP, and Axis 2 PRO. What is unique about the new series of Axis rifles is each of these models are offered in right-hand, left-hand, compact, and compact left-handed models. This makes the Savage Axis series the most comprehensive and accessible series of rifles that we have offered yet, with options made to fit every hunter or shooter at a price that won’t break the bank.
Ergonomic Redesigns
When the Savage Axis was introduced 15 years ago, the goal was simple: offer an affordable rifle that is reliable, accurate, and ready to hunt right out of the box. In that time, the needs and expectations of consumers have changed and evolved. Today, a rifle’s comfort and ergonomics are just as important as its inherent accuracy and performance. With that in mind, Savage’s engineers went about redesigning the stock and bolt handle of the Axis to meet these expectations, while still offering an outstanding rifle that meets the quality Savage is known for.
A large part of the Axis redesign was designing an ergonomic stock and bolt handle. The stock’s pistol grip is constructed to have a deeper, more vertical angle than a traditional rifle stock with added texturing. This allows for the shooter to have a more comfortable grip on the rifle, making it easier to shoulder, aim, and maneuver. The stock is also constructed to be more durable and rigid, especially in the fore end. This not only helps make the rifle more durable, but it reduces flex to help maintain accuracy. Rather than a smooth, spherical handle, the new Savage Axis bolt handle has several “faces”, allowing for a greater surface area and more angles to grip the bolt handle. This helps make the handle more comfortable and easier to grip and operate, especially in colder weather with gloved hands. The bolt handle is also longer and sits further away from the stock, making it easier to work quickly and allowing for more scope clearance. These improvements were made across the Axis lineup, so you can expect any Axis rifle you purchase to be more comfortable and easier to shoot than ever before.
Axis XP
The base model of the new Savage Axis lineup, the Axis XP is a simple and ready to hunt package. The rifle comes with the Axis’s new ergonomic stock in black, as well as the redesigned bolt handle. Setting the standard for the new Axis line, there are models available in right-hand and left-hand, as well as compact models for both configurations. The Axis XP comes with a factory mounted and boresighted 3-9x40 scope ready to sight in and take on your next hunt. Coming in with an MSRP of $479, the Axis XP is an affordable package rifle with everything you need to head out to the field.
Axis 2
The Axis 2 rifle is the next step up in the new Savage Axis rifle series. It comes with Savage’s signature user adjustable AccuTrigger, as well as two multi-slot bases on top of the receiver to make it easier for you to mount your favorite scope on the Axis. Stocks on the Axis 2 come in three different color options: Gray, OD Green, and Flat Dark Earth. These stock colors are also offered in the Axis 2 Compact, Axis 2 Left-Hand, and the Axis 2 Compact Left-Hand models. The Axis 2 has an MSRP $489, providing hunters with an accurate, reliable starter rifle for less than $500.
Axis 2 XP
The Axis 2 XP rifle provides all the same features and configurations of the Axis 2 rifle, along with adding a factory mounted and boresighted 3-9x40 scope. The Axis 2 XP also offers a model with a hardwood stock that is built to the same ergonomic shape as the standard synthetic stocks of the other Axis models. The hardwood stock is stippled at the pistol grip and forend, helping the shooter maintain a better grip. The Axis 2 XP Hardwood is also available in a left-handed model. The standard Axis 2 XP has an MSRP of $549, while the Axis 2 XP Hardwood comes in at an MSRP of $689. Both options provide affordable price points for reliable, everyday rifles that are ready to hit the woods this fall.
Axis 2 PRO
The final model offered as a part of the newly redesigned Savage Axis series of rifles is the Axis 2 PRO. It’s a rifle packed with features, especially compared to its price point. The Axis 2 PRO features the reliable AccuTrigger, as well as the same ergonomic stock as other new Axis models in either Savage Woodland or Savage Western camo patterns. The barrel, action, and ergonomic bolt handle are all cerakoted for durability and weather resistance. The rifle’s action is also topped with a picatinny rail for mounting your favorite optic. Finally, the Axis 2 PRO’s barrel has a slightly heavier contour than the standard sporter barrel, which has allowed us to thread the barrel for you to install your favorite muzzle brake or suppressor, like the Savage AccuCan. The Axis 2 PRO comes in at a MSRP of $599 and is ready to be outfitted with your favorite accessories to serve as your next go to hunting rifle.
The Savage Axis series of rifles is, at its core, a reflection of what Savage Arms is all about. The Axis is built for the everyday hunter, those who want a reliable rifle that still has the accuracy and capability to make tough shots when they matter. Even at a highly competitive price point, the new Axis series of rifles is built to be better. Better ergonomics, better performance, and better accuracy than any other rifle out of the box. At Savage, better comes standard, and the new Savage Axis shows that better comes standard for every hunter in the field.
