It's important for us at Savage to help our users understand their rifles. It's important to keep your firearm working and in proper repair. Removing the bolt from your Savage rimfire rifle will allow you to properly clean and service your rifle. The steps below will walk you through how to remove the bolt in your Savage Mark I, Mark II, Rascal, Model 93/93R17 or B Series rifle.
Whenever cleaning or working on your firearm, be sure that it is fully unloaded and clear of ammunition. Safety should be your #1 concern while around firearms.

Removal Steps:
- Check to make sure your firearm is unloaded and safely remove the magazine
- Open the bolt
- Move the safety to the fire position
- Press the trigger and hold fully rearward
- Pull the bolt rearward and remove
Reinstallation Steps:
- Ensure that the bolt handle has not rotated out of position while outside of the rifle. On B Series models, there is an alignment mark that must be in line with the firing pin (see image below). On all models, when the bolt handle is in line with the cutout in the receiver, the firing pin should be in the top center position
- While holding the bolt in this position, insert the bolt with the trigger held fully rearward
- Move the safety to the SAFE position and reinstall the magazine
The video below will demonstrate these steps as well.
